The Chicks Are Alright

It looks like wingnuttia was a bit premature in predicting the Chicks demise after they dared criticize the Preznit and express shame in being from the same state.
NEW YORK, May 31 /PRNewswire/ -- As Taking The Long Way debuts at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 best-selling albums chart this week, with first week's sales of 525,829, the Dixie Chicks have become the first female group in chart history to have three albums debut at #1, breaking the record the Chicks established in 2002 when the group's last studio album, Home, debuted at #1 and made them the first female group ever to have two albums debut at #1.
You have to give them credit though, those mouth-breathing, paste-eating, bedwetting wingnuts are consistently wrong about EVERYTHING. Just like their fearless leader.

Way to go wingnuts!

Nomar Watch, Pt. 3

Clutch hitting.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers returned to the formula that has served them so well lately. The pitchers were stingy, and Nomar Garciaparra got another clutch hit.

[...]

The game was tied 1-1 when Hill left, but the Dodgers put together a rally in the eighth against relievers Mike Stanton (1-5) and Gary Majewski.

Rafael Furcal, who went 3-for-5, led off the inning with a one-hopper off Stanton that ate up third baseman Ryan Zimmerman for a single. Kenny Lofton bunted and beat a high throw to first for a hit. Majewski replaced Stanton, and Garciaparra, raising his average to .432 with runners in scoring position, lined a single to left to score Furcal.

Asked if he could explain Garciaparra's clutch hitting, manager Grady Little said: "No, and I'm not going to try to, either. I just want him to keep it up. He's as good as I've ever seen him."
Wouldn't happen to need any of that on the north side of Chicago these days.

Right Andy? Jim?

The Happiness Project

Odd title for a post on fountains of angst, yes. However, I've been reading a blog called The Happiness Project lately and found it enlightening.

Here are a couple posts that I enjoyed.

Hedonic treadmill:

One of the most significant factors in happiness is the hedonic treadmill, or hedonic adaptation.

People are adaptable. We quickly adjust to a new life circumstance—for better or worse—and consider it normal. Although this helps us when our situation worsens, it means that when circumstances improve, we soon become hardened to new comforts or privileges. Scoring air-conditioning, a bigger house, or a fancy title gives us only a brief boost in happiness before we start to take it for granted. As Aldous Huxley wrote, “Habit converts luxurious enjoyments into dull and daily necessities.” That’s the hedonic treadmill.

But we can offset this effect by reminding ourselves how much we enjoy something, or how lucky we are.

Do good, feel good.

When it comes to happiness, it’s very important to remember to ACT AS YOU WANT TO FEEL. People believe they act because of the way they feel, but in fact, we very often feel because of the way we act.

So to change your emotions, change your actions. If you want to feel like a caring person, act in a caring way. If you want to have more loving feelings toward someone, perform loving actions for that person's benefit. Doing good makes you feel good.

It really works.

Regular exercise:

Exercise helps make you happy. People who exercise are healthier, more energetic, think more clearly, sleep better, and have delayed onset of dementia. They also get relief from anxiety and mild depression, comparable to medication and therapy.

But even when you acknowledge the tremendous benefits, if you’re not already exercising regularly, it can be hard to adopt the habit. I managed to change myself from a natural sloth to an enthusiastic exerciser by using all these tricks:

Always exercise on Monday. This sets the psychological pattern for the week.

Never skip exercising for two days in a row. You can skip a day, but the next day, you must exercise no matter how inconvenient.

DON’T link exercise to weight loss as a way to motivate yourself. Although it’s quite true that people who exercise regularly are far more likely to keep weight off, you’ll find yourself justifying missing your run by turning down two Saltines. And if you don’t lose weight easily (who does?), you’re likely to give up exercise as futile.

Check it out. Life can't be all about the angst.

See The Truth

Annoy wingnuts and the kewl kidz in the media (see Chris Matthews, Gwen Ifill, Don Imus) who just love to trash Al Gore for being insane/holier than thou/phony, but can't seem to muster the same contempt for an incompetent, lying Preznit that the American people despise.

Pledge here.

Nomar Watch, Pt. 1

Yeah, Cubs wouldn't need a guy like this.

In 27 games,
OBP: .431
Slugging: .660
Avg: . 369
RBI: 29

At least I can root for the Dodgers and Nomah, now that the Cubs season is officially over. It actually ended at 3:24 on Friday May 12th, but now after losing 17 of their last 21, it's time to pull the plug, back up the truck, figure out what else you have in the minor leagues, because what I've seen so far isn't so hot, other than Marshall, Murton, and Cedeno.

I guarantee 2 out of the 3 pitchers we traded for Pierre become solid starters for the Marlins. Florida will be able to rebuild again and get to the World Series again before the Cubs make it.

Support the Chicks

Support the Chicks.

#1 on iTunes. #1 on Amazon.

And nobody likes the Preznit.

This must be driving the wingnuts crazy.

Yeah, looks like their career is over. Who needs redneck radio?

Not the Chicks.

I picked up a couple extra to share with friends and annoy the bush cultists. You may want to as well.

Oh, and TK, the Chicks have 3 albums above your latest release on the Amazon charts. Looks like the market for brain dead, chickenhawk machismo, jingoistic crap is drying up. At least you have Ford commercials.

Hope that works out for you.
